Cookie Policy
Last updated: September 27, 2026
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We use as few as possible: only the ones the Platform needs to work, and ones that remember a choice you made. We use no advertising, tracking or social media cookies, and none from other companies.
Cookies we use
| Name | What it does | Type | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| wts_session | Keeps you signed in. Holds a random token, never your password. | Strictly necessary | 30 days, renewed while you use the Platform; removed when you log out |
| wts_oauth | Protects a Sign in with Google attempt while it is in progress. | Strictly necessary | Up to 30 minutes, only during Google sign-in |
| NEXT_LOCALE | Remembers the language you chose. | Your preference | 1 year, set only when you pick a language |
| lang_suggest_dismissed | Remembers that you answered the “switch language?” suggestion, so it is not shown again. | Your preference | 1 year, set only when you answer it |
Other things stored in your browser
- wts_install_dismissed_at: Remembers that you closed the “install the app” banner, so it stays away for 30 days.
- wts-dev-unlocked: Used only on pages that are still in preview, to remember that you entered the preview passphrase.
- Offline page (service worker): A copy of our “you’re offline” page, so it can show when you have no connection. No personal information.
Visit statistics without cookies
We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies or store anything in your browser, and does not follow you to other sites. What it records is described in our Privacy Policy.
Maps
Map images are downloaded from CARTO when a map is on screen. That request shares your IP address with CARTO, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
Why there is no cookie banner
Privacy laws require consent before a site stores cookies that are not needed to provide what you asked for. Every cookie above is either strictly necessary (signing you in, protecting sign-in) or stores a choice you have just made (your language), so none of them needs a consent banner. If we ever add a cookie that needs your consent, we will ask before setting it.
Controlling cookies
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block the necessary ones, you will not be able to stay signed in, but the guides will still work.
