Women's Travel Shield (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Women's Travel Shield website and mobile application (collectively, the “Platform”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and protect it, and your rights regarding that information.
We are a Canadian company and comply with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Where applicable, we also respect the rights of users under the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other international privacy frameworks.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
When you create an account, subscribe, use community features, or contact us, you may provide: your name and email address; a password or authentication credentials; payment information (processed by our third-party payment provider - we do not store your full credit card number); your country visit history and travel plans (if you use the country tracker feature); messages, reviews, or other content you post in community spaces; and any information you include in a contact form submission.
1.2 Shield Fund Applications
If you apply for an emergency grant through the Shield Fund, you may be asked to provide documentation related to your safety situation, location, and circumstances. This information is treated with the highest level of confidentiality. It is shared only with the independent fiscal sponsor administering the Shield Fund and only to the extent necessary to evaluate and process your application.
1.3 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the Platform, we may automatically collect: device type, operating system, and browser information; IP address and approximate geographic location; pages visited, time spent, and interaction patterns; and referral source (how you found us). We use cookies and similar technologies for analytics and to improve the Platform. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: provide, maintain, and improve the Platform and its features; process subscriptions and payments; administer Shield Fund applications (in coordination with our fiscal sponsor); send you service-related communications (account confirmations, security alerts, policy updates); send you optional updates, newsletters, or safety alerts (you can unsubscribe at any time); moderate community features and enforce our Terms of Service; analyze usage patterns to improve content and user experience; and comply with legal obligations.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following limited circumstances:
Payment processors: Your payment information is handled by our third-party payment processor. We do not have access to or store your full payment details.
Shield Fund fiscal sponsor: If you apply for an emergency grant, relevant application information is shared with the independent nonprofit fiscal sponsor that administers the Shield Fund. They are bound by their own privacy and confidentiality obligations.
App store platforms: If you subscribe through Apple or Google Play, those platforms process your payment and share limited transaction information with us.
Analytics providers: We use analytics tools to understand how the Platform is used. These tools collect anonymized or aggregated data.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect safety or rights.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Shield Fund application records may be retained longer for auditing and reporting purposes, in accordance with the fiscal sponsor's policies.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your information; withdraw consent for optional data processing (such as marketing emails); and request a copy of your data in a portable format.

6. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and secure storage practices. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to protecting your data and will notify you promptly in the event of any breach affecting your personal information.
7. International Users
The Platform is operated from Canada. If you access it from outside Canada, your information may be transferred to and processed in Canada, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. By using the Platform, you consent to this transfer. For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process your data on the basis of consent, contractual necessity, or legitimate interest, depending on the context. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Children's Privacy
The Platform is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on the Platform with a revised effective date, and by email if the change is significant. Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
