Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Women's Travel Shield for using womenstravelshield.com and the Women's Travel Shield apps (the “Platform”). By using the Platform you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. What the Platform is

The Platform provides general safety information for women travelling - country guides, legal and cultural summaries, emergency and embassy contacts - and a community where members share ratings, map pins and posts. The Platform is currently free. We do not sell anything on it. If we introduce paid features, their price and terms will be shown before you pay, and nothing will be charged without your agreement.

2. Information, not advice

Everything on the Platform is general information, not legal, medical, immigration or other professional advice. Laws and situations change, sources can be wrong, and our information may be out of date or incomplete. Always check with official sources, such as your embassy, before relying on it. Our Content Disclaimer forms part of these terms. Ratings, pins and posts are the opinions of individual members, not ours.

3. Who can use it

You must be 18 or older to create an account. You agree to give accurate information when you sign up and to keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account; tell us straight away at team@womenstravelshield.com if you think someone else has access to it.

4. Community rules

When you use the community features, you agree not to:

• post anything false or misleading, including made-up ratings or experiences;
• harass, threaten, intimidate or demean anyone;
• post sexually explicit, pornographic, violent, hateful or otherwise objectionable content, including nudity;
• pretend to be someone else;
• recruit, solicit or exploit other members, or advertise;
• share anyone's personal information or location without their consent;
• post content you do not have the right to share, such as someone else's photos; or
• break the law or help anyone else do so.

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive members. You can report pins, ratings, posts and comments, and block or mute members in Sisterhood. We remove content, and suspend or close accounts, that break these rules or put members at risk. Where it is safe and practical, we will tell you why.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. So that we can run the Platform, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, display and share your content on the Platform, and to make technical changes such as resizing photos. This licence ends when you delete your account, except for copies in backups until they expire. You confirm you have the right to post what you post.

6. Our content

The Platform's design, text, compilations and software belong to Women's Travel Shield or its licensors. You may read, save and share the safety information for personal, non-commercial use. Please do not copy it in bulk or use it commercially without asking us. Photos by other people are used under their own licences, listed on the Photo Credits page. App names and icons shown in the guides belong to their owners and are shown only to identify those apps; no endorsement is implied either way.

7. Other websites and services

The Platform links to embassies, organisations, apps and other sites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.

8. Availability

We work to keep the Platform available and accurate, but we provide it “as is” and cannot promise it will always be available, error-free or up to date. Do not rely on it as your only source of safety information or your only way to reach help.

9. Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, Women's Travel Shield is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by relying on information on the Platform, by other members, or by third parties we link to. Because the Platform is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to CAD $100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Ending your use

You can stop using the Platform at any time, and deactivate or delete your account in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Sections 2, 5 (for content already shared), 6, 9 and 11 continue to apply afterwards.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and disputes will be heard by the courts of Alberta. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you also keep any protections the law where you live gives you that cannot be waived by agreement.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, tell you by email or in the Platform before they take effect. If you keep using the Platform after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, you can delete your account.

13. General

If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. Questions: team@womenstravelshield.com.
