Terms of Service
Effective Date: July 16, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Women's Travel Shield website, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the “Platform”), operated by Women's Travel Shield (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
1. About the Platform
Women's Travel Shield provides country-by-country safety information, legal rights summaries, and emergency resources for women travelers. Core safety information is provided free of charge to all users. Optional paid subscriptions provide access to community features, enhanced tools, and contribute to the Shield Fund, an emergency grant program for women in crisis abroad.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By using the Platform, you represent that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.
3. User Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate, current information when creating your account and to update it as needed. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4. Free and Paid Services
4.1 Free Tier
Country safety guides, legal rights summaries, emergency contacts, and embassy information are available to all users at no cost. We do not gate safety information behind a paywall.
4.2 Subscriptions
Paid subscriptions provide access to community features, the country visit tracker, and eligibility for Shield Fund coverage (subject to the waiting period and eligibility requirements described in Section 5). Subscription fees, billing frequency, and cancellation terms are displayed at the time of purchase. Subscriptions purchased through Apple App Store or Google Play are subject to the billing and refund policies of those platforms. We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods unless required by applicable law.
5. The Shield Fund
5.1 Nature of the Fund
The Shield Fund is a discretionary emergency grant program, not an insurance product. A portion of each subscription contributes to the Shield Fund, which is held and administered by an independent nonprofit fiscal sponsor. Grants are awarded based on need, available funds, and eligibility criteria. Approval of any grant is at the sole discretion of the administering body.
5.2 What the Fund Covers
The Shield Fund is scoped to physical safety situations: helping a woman escape danger, flee coercion, or reach safety while traveling abroad. This may include emergency accommodation, transport home, or immediate safety-related expenses. The Shield Fund does not cover flight cancellations, medical emergencies, lost luggage, trip interruptions, or other travel mishaps. Those situations are appropriately covered by travel insurance, which we encourage all travelers to carry.
5.3 Eligibility
Shield Fund access is subject to a waiting period and active subscription status at the time of the claim. Specific eligibility requirements, including minimum membership duration and documentation requirements, are described in the Shield Fund Guidelines available on the Platform. Meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee a grant will be awarded.
5.4 No Guarantee
The Shield Fund operates on a finite pool of resources. We do not guarantee that funds will be available for every eligible applicant. The existence of the Shield Fund does not create a contractual obligation, an insurance policy, or a warranty of any kind. Grant decisions are final.
6. Content Disclaimer
The country safety information, legal rights summaries, and related content on this Platform are provided for general informational purposes only. Please read our full Content Disclaimer, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
7. User Conduct
When using community features, you agree not to: post false, misleading, or deliberately harmful information; harass, threaten, or intimidate other users; impersonate any person or misrepresent your identity; use the Platform to recruit, solicit, or exploit vulnerable users; share another user's personal information or location without their consent; or use the Platform for any illegal purpose.
We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these standards, without prior notice.
8. Identity Verification
We may require identity verification for certain features, including community spaces and Shield Fund applications. This is a safety measure designed to protect users. Verification information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
9. Intellectual Property
All content on the Platform - including text, data compilations, graphics, logos, and software - is owned by or licensed to Women's Travel Shield and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may use the free safety information for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or commercially exploit Platform content without our prior written consent.
10. Third-Party Links and Resources
The Platform may link to external resources, including embassy websites, NGO services, and emergency hotlines. These links are provided for convenience. We do not control, endorse, or assume responsibility for the content, accuracy, or practices of third-party sites.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
Women's Travel Shield is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Platform, reliance on information provided, or inability to access the Platform.
We are not liable for the actions, omissions, or conduct of any third party, including partner organizations, NGOs, or emergency services referenced on the Platform.
We are not liable for the outcome of any Shield Fund application or grant decision.
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising from your use of the Platform shall not exceed the amount you have paid to us in subscription fees in the 12 months preceding the claim.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Women's Travel Shield, its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Platform, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on the Platform with a revised effective date. If the changes are significant, we will also notify you by email. Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
